History of Parma, Idaho
It's believed the city of Parma, Italy was the namesake for the town of Parma, Idaho. Documents show that Albert Fouch named Parma after something he read about the city in Italy. The town became a city in 1904 and has always been well positioned trade and business: A railroad passes through, it is near the highway and interstate and it is nestled between two rivers.
Onions in Parma, Idaho
Parma has a rich history in onions which is alive and well today with companies such as the JC Watson Company who celebrated 100 years and four generations of being family owned in 2012. Onions grown in this and the surrounding area account for about 1 billion pounds of onions produced each calendar year. The region grows the largest amount of onions per volume, nationwide. In 2017 there were 36 onion packing sheds in the Parma/Treasure Valley/Eastern Oregon area.
Parma also boasts an award-winning school district and a thriving metro area.
Parma Motor Vu
Parma is home to the Parma Motor-Vu drive in movie theater which originated in 1953. It was the first drive-in movie theater in the region and has withstood the test of time including the effects of war, radio sound and digital cinema. The Parma Motor Vu has become a nostolgic night out for parents and grandparents who seek for their children to enjoy the same activity they did growing up. The popcorn is still made in the original 1953 popper!
